Two of the most prominent additions for 2016 GMC Sierra are safety and infotainment systems that make this powerful truck just as competitive in these areas as a smaller crossover vehicle.

Also new for 2016: a new top of the line Sierra Denali Ultimate model. This elegant pick-up offers a high end look to a vehicle that's far more than just a work horse.

Building on the previous year's model platform, the 2016 Sierra has created a brighter, bolder version of its 2015 look, including enhanced lighting features. C-shaped LED lights are now a part of headlights, taillights, and foglights.

Each Sierra model has added LED lighting. The base, SLE and SLT models feature new projector beam headlights that have LED signature lighting. Drivers will find high-performance LED headlights standard on the Denali and are also available for the SLT. The SLT, All-Terrain, and Denali have also added LED foglights and taillights, for a sleek look and improved safety. The Ultimate model has another exterior addition besides the lighting: 22-inch chrome or black-insert wheels.

There's also a convenient, sturdy locking tailgate, and Denali models sport Tri-Mode Power Steps. These steps move in and out automatically, easily moving forward and back via an easy to kick button at the rear of each step which makes it easier to access the side of the truck bed.

The dash remains solid with an upright layout, soft material finishings, and lighting that continues GMC's standard, attractive red shade. Sierra Denali and Denali Ultimate have additional interior features such as Bose audio and ventilated leather front seats. And the infotainment features are also stellar: seven or eight-inch IntelliLink infotainment touch screens have CarPlay functionality, mirroring some smartphone apps on the display. The vehicle's onboard voice-command system can be used to directly control Apple's Siri, text messages, phone, Apple Maps, iOS music, podcast apps, and additional music apps such as Spotify, iHeartRadio, and MLB At Bat.

Under the hood, larger displacement engines stay the same as in the Sierra's last redesign.
The base engine has a 4.3-liter V-6, even more powerful is the 5.3-liter V-8, with 355 horsepower and the capability to handle towing up to 11,100 pounds. Finally, there's the 6.2-liter V-8, with 420 horsepower which can tow up to 12,000 pounds.

Drivers can go for a Sierra with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive with each of these options. A six-speed automatic transmission is standard with the V-6; an eight-speed automatic is standard with the 6.2 and with SLT and Denali model 5.3 liter engines.

Brakes are also built tough and strong. All Sierra 1500 models include four-wheel disc brakes with Duralife brake rotors.

Additional features include additional LED truck bed lighting, safety options such as
Trailer Sway Control and Hill Start Assist, and camera-based Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure.

Overall, drivers seeking a powerful, safe, easy-handling truck with style can find what they need in the 2016 GMC Sierra.
