2018 GMC ACADIA

The 2018 GMC Acadia welcomes the new year with a combination of sleek and modern looks, generous and flexible interior packages and strong, efficient engines, and it is this mix that really puts the sport into Sports Utility Vehicle. The class-leading dynamics of the Acadia ensures every drive will put a smile on your face and leave you no doubt it is both the pragmatic and driver's choice.

GMC's mid-size SUV has a quiet and refined cabin bursting with tech and quality, and the spaciousness of its seven-seat layout is well-masked by an exterior that is handsome and tough in a way only GMC SUVs can be. The Acadia is packed full of standard safety and convenience features, from the SL all the way through to the range-topping Denali. Front, side, and curtain airbags are standard in every Acadia, along with an industry-first front center airbag to further protect the front-seat occupants, as is ABS, traction control, ESP, cruise control and heated side mirrors.

The two engine choices are simple, but the technology in each isn't, with both the 2.5L four-cylinder and 3.6L V6 offering the likes of direct injection and variable valve timing to maximize performance and reduce consumption. Standard on the SL, SLE, and SLT-1, the 2.5-liter's 193HP and 188 lb-ft of torque will give you ample thrust as the Acadia is maneuvered through traffic or rough terrain, with the 6sp auto smoothly putting the power to the tarmac or the dirt. Standard on the Denali and SLT-2 is the immensely strong 310HP, 271lb-ft V6, with active fuel management for increased efficiency. With the V6's optional all-wheel-drive, you'll have the surefooted confidence to go as far off the beaten track as you dare, the Traction Select system maximizes grip when there isn't much of it.

The quality of the Acadia's performance is more than matched by the quality of its well-appointed interior, too. For the driver, a leather-wrapped steering wheel comes standard across the range, as does a color touchscreen, but the standard features don't end there; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, climate control air-conditioning and a rearview camera aren't costly options. You'll find them in every Acadia. Comfort is at the core of every GMC SUV, which is why that leather-wrapped wheel is fully adjustable, with the Acadia Denali going one step further and offering power tilt and telescopic adjustment. The SLE-2 and beyond have heated front seats with the driver's being power adjustable, and a powered front passenger seat with lumbar control for both front seat passengers is standard on the SLT models and Acadia Denali. Rear passengers aren't forgotten about in the SLT-2 and Denali, as they get the luxury of a heated second row.

A six-speaker stereo system is standard on the SL and SLE models, but for the most impressive sound quality imaginable look no further than the Bose premium eight-speaker system. Coupled with the bigger 8" touch-screen and the further addition of navigation on the Denali, and you have everything you could ask for. The cutting edge of technology is at your fingertips on every Acadia with the latest built-in WiFi technology; up to seven devices that can be connected, so it is doubtful any passenger will ever complain about being bored again.

Looking across the Acadia range and features like a power programmable lift-gate are added, standard from the SLE-2 upwards, and 18" wheels replace the 17" on the SL and SLE-1. For those who want the most commanding presence, look no further than the SLT-2 and Acadia Denali; their 20" wheels and respective silver- and chrome-colored roof rails will have you looking back at it after it's parked in the drive or the parking lot. Those well-sculptured flanks, wrap-around rear glass, and the bold front end will find plenty of admirers, too.

If you want every box checked, the SLT-2 and Acadia Denali fill that bill. Following distance indicator and forward collision alert? Check. Front and rear park assist? Check. Lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert and front passenger braking systems, they're all there as well. In fact, the Acadia brings so much technology to the table it's hardly fair to call it a truck, at least not in the sense of its past contemporaries. It's a modern machine with a level of refinement not usually seen in the sector, but GMC brings both to the table to show the competition this is a mid-size SUV to be reckoned with, and one to be taken very seriously.
