2018 Sierra 1500

2018 GMC Sierra 1500

When you buy a GMC Sierra, you're not just buying a tough, powerful, and handsome pick-up; you're buying into over a century of history with a nameplate synonymous with technology and reliability. The 2018 Sierra 1500 is light-duty in name only, with a ruggedness and quality that does more than simply challenge the competition; it smashes it. With 22 different cab, box, engine and drive options (excluding additional final-drive ratio choices), the only hard decision to make is which is the perfect one for you.

The interior space in the Sierra is impressive no matter which cab you choose, with the generous proportions keeping it ahead of its contemporaries. The base Sierra is the ideal tool for not only tradesmen but anyone looking for a tough and capable truck that will toil away for hours and hours without breaking a sweat or putting a dent in your wallet. Considerations like either a front bench seat or front buckets and several interior trim choices highlight the versatility this excellent truck affords, but with features like a 7-inch color touchscreen (with Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, of course), rearview camera and air-conditioning, you couldn't say it is merely some agricultural dinosaur. Heck, with the standard 4.3-liter, 285hp EcoTec3 V6 or optional 5.3-liter 355hp V8 mated to a slick 6sp automatic transmission, it has the performance to spare. Do you think you need more grunt for hauling and towing? Luckily GMC has heard those cries and answered them with a 420hp, 460 lb-ft 6.2-liter V8, an option on either the double or crew cab in SLT spec, and either V8 can be mated to a super smooth but tough-as-nails 8sp auto if you go for the SLT or Denali.

Hauling? It's in the DNA of every GMC truck, and the Sierra 1500 does it effortlessly. With the 61 cubic feet standard box or 78 cubic feet long box options, you can be certain there won't be much that won't fit in the back. Even the 53.4 cubic feet short box available on the Sierra crew cab will swallow up plenty, and with a max payload range between 1,640lb and 2,250lb, it's almost a matter of if it fits, you can haul it. Towing payload starts at 5,500lb for the crew cab V6, but if you're prone to moving mountains then up to 12,500lb for a 6.2-liter crew cab is available. If the marketing department had no say, the engineers would have probably called this the GMC Capable.

However, if there's one thing GMC does know about its customers, it's that they don't just work; they live, and these trucks are just as much at home in the wilderness and on the open road as they are on a job site. These handsome trucks come packed full of standard equipment to make progress both easy and comfortable. HID headlamps and LED daytime running lights give the Sierra a contemporary and purposeful look, while hydraulic body mounts, triple door seals, and cruise control serve to make any journey supremely comfortable. Move up the range to the SLE and added features like LED cargo box lighting and remote-lockable tailgate (with the user-friendly EZ-Lift and Lower system), a locking rear diff, remote keyless entry, a bigger 8" infotainment touchscreen with CD and MP3 player and leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, OnStar 4G WiFi hotspot availability, plus 17" alloy wheels, body-colored side moldings and tinted rear glass for even more parking lot prestige.

The SLT starts to really ramp things up, coming standard with the 5.3-liter V8 and also with such niceties as LED taillamps and foglamps, 18" wheels, heated front seats (with the bench or buckets), SiriusXM satellite radio, and trailering hitch to get you working or playing sooner. Lastly, at the top of the tree is the Sierra Denali, equipped with heated and ventilated front seats, navigation, a full leather interior, and the comprehensive Driver Alert Package, including such things as; lane assist, Intellibeam headlamps that automatically dip the high beams for oncoming traffic, low speed forward automatic braking, front and rear park assist and forward collision alert. Chrome assist steps and 20" wheels round out the looks of what is the ultimate pick-up on the market today.

Work or play, business or pleasure, serious or carefree; no matter what you lean towards, the 2018 GMC Sierra covers all bases at all times. And, with the peace of mind of two years scheduled servicing and a bumper-to-bumper three years/36,000 mile warranty, you can breathe easy knowing the Sierra's got you covered, too.
