2018 Terrain

2018 GMC Terrain

GMC has introduced for 2018 an all-new Terrain, with a new look and significant upgrades for 2018, but when you compare it to the competition it's clear this is one modern and spacious SUV indeed. With a range of engine and trim options to meet every need and requirement, the Terrain is a perfect fit for any garage.

It's the gorgeous new looks that will catch your attention from a mile away. With its extroverted grille and futuristic headlight and taillight design, the striking and handsomely scalloped sides, the Terrain is both bold and athletic, leaving you no doubt that this is a car that will change your expectations for a compact SUV. It's a look that visually shrinks what is still a vehicle that caters to those looking for plenty of interior space. The glasshouse offers excellent visibility, especially forward view; a point often sacrificed these days.

Modern, new-age technology is now synonymous with GMC, and under the skin you'll find a cutting-edge range of engines that are smooth, powerful and efficient. Be careful of scorning the lack of displacement, because they pack a wallop; the 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine that comes standard in SL, SLE and SLT spec delivers 170hp and 203lb-ft of torque. If you prefer your transport to have more poke, then look no further than the optional 2.0L turbo (standard on the Denali), packing an impressive 252hp and mountain-shrinking 260lb-ft of torque, numbers that would be scarcely believable from this sort of displacement a few years ago. Both gas engines get their power through a 9sp automatic transmission, showcasing the smoothness with which progress will be made with either gasoline engine.

GMC aims to offer a product for everybody, so it's pleasing to see a 137hp 1.6L turbodiesel engine is also available. With maximum torque of 240lb-ft and a 6sp automatic gearbox, the diesel engine effortlessly covers ground, and with a combined cycle of 32mpg, does so while ensuring the budget will be easily kept under control. Available in both FWD and AWD, the Terrain can cater for those who don't plan on leaving the tarmac, and for those who don't plan at all, and simply drive knowing their SUV is going to look after them wherever they may find themselves.

Thankfully the cabin is as hushed and peaceful as the powertrain. Either within the city limits or out on the open road, the Terrain will keep you comfortable and safe in an environment that is roomier than the competition. You can thank the new stiffer chassis for a lot of that tranquility, for it not only offers a safer structure for the passengers but means any jaw-rattling lumps and bumps are isolated and kept at bay. The multi-link rear suspension is a perfect partner to the Macpherson strut front end, delivering a ride that is smooth and comfortable for the passengers, but gives the driver control and confidence through the bends. The occupants will have plenty of time to enjoy the well-equipped cabin, with the six-speaker audio system filling the otherwise silent interior. The Denali offers an upgraded seven-speaker BOSE system for the ultimate premium experience, and all Terrain models have an intuitive color touchscreen to handle the Bluetooth and media needs of the passengers.

Cruise control? Yes. Multi-function leather steering wheel? Of course. Front, side and curtain airbags? Absolutely, along with ABS, rear-view camera and TPMS. Safety and comfort are some of the hallmarks of GMC, and the Terrain makes these a priority along with the excellent driving experience. If you're looking for a premium SUV with class-leading style and technology, then look no further.
