Engines and Drive System
Two V6 engines are available for the Audi Q7. The 272 horsepower 3.0 TDI w272 accelerates the five-seat Q7 from in just 6.2 seconds. The other, a very efficient version of the 3.0 TDI, has an output of 218 horsepower.
The handling of the large SUV is agile and at the same time comfortable. The electromechanical power steering and versatile Audi drive select system are standard. The vehicle can also be equipped with the optional adaptive air suspension with tilt angle display and optional all-wheel steering system that can turn the rear wheels up to five degrees.
Interior and Controls
The Audi Q7 SUV offers the largest interior in its segment. A broad continuous air vent strip runs across the front of the cockpit in the passenger area which ensures exceptional climate control with the optional four-zone air conditioning system. Optional leather packages for the seats and the dashboard, as well as two different design selections, make the interior even more exclusive. Three versions of the front seats are available which offer numerous options up to the customized contour seat with heating, massage and climate control functions.
In the five-seat Q7 model the basic configuration of the luggage compartment boasts a volume of 31.4 cu. ft., which can be increased up to 73.3 cu. ft. Audi offers a third row of power-folding seats as an option. A power tailgate is standard, and gesture control is available as an option in conjunction with the convenience key.
Customers can also choose the optional Audi virtual cockpit –a 12.3-inch diagonal display shows high-resolution graphics and allows switching between different views. Audi includes a 7.3-inch central display as standard. The MMI navigation plus optionally comes with an 8.3-inch display and even a head-up display if desired.
Safety and Assistance Systems
The Audi Q7 e-tron 3.0 TDI Quattro leads its class in this segment. For example, the predictive efficiency assistant helps the driver save fuel. The adaptive cruise control including traffic jam assist takes over the braking, acceleration, and steering from the driver on well-paved roads at speeds of up to 40 mph. Also, the collision avoidance assist intervenes with the steering to help the driver avoid an obstacle. Turn assists monitors opposing traffic when turning left at low speeds and automatically brakes the Q7 in a dangerous situation. Other highlights in the portfolio include the rear cross traffic assist, exit warning and trailer maneuver assist.
With the Audi Q7’s sophisticated MMI technology, the driver and front passenger can input characters on the large glass touchpad surface and can zoom and scroll using multi-finger gestures. The whole MMI control logic is similar to that of a smartphone, including the intelligent free-text search function. The voice control system recognizes inputs made using everyday language, such as “ Where can I refuel?”
The top-of-the-line infotainment system in the Audi Q7, MMI navigation plus, uses the second-generation modular infotainment module with its outstanding computing power. Its Wi-Fi hotspot connects the passengers’ mobile devices to the internet, while LTE connectivity brings the online services of Audi to connect on board. The Audi smartphone interface integrates cell phones with the iOS or Android operating system into the infotainment environment. For audiophiles, two optional sound systems are available: one from Bose and one from Bang & Olufsen with up to 1,920 watts of power and 3D sound.
