The 2019 Buick Enclave offers you all the versatility of a minivan in the stylish body of an SUV. It’s an excellent family car with a great interior, premium finishing, and absolutely no sliding doors.
The new Buick Enclave is a beautiful and spacious SUV, with sleek looks that don’t reveal at first sight how much room is in the cabin. This gem comes with a great set of standard and optional safety features.
The Enclave received a full reshape and a whole new design last year to celebrate its 10 years of service. Now the Enclave has a bolder and aggressive shape that catches the attention of passers-by.
All models are served dutifully by the 310-horsepower V6 engine paired with a nine-speed automatic shift. All models except the base trim have all-wheel drive available, and front-wheel drive is standard for every setup choice. The Enclave is available in four main setups: Preferred, Essence, Premium, and Avenir.
With its new technology, the suspension system grants an enjoyable ride even over the most difficult terrain. The noise reduction is excellent — a hallmark of the Buick brand.
The Enclave has a spacious interior, with cushioned seats for everyone in the first two rows and an incredibly comfortable third row of seats that can grant enough room for two more adults. This third row is also easily accessible thanks to the clever design of the second row.
The Enclave is quick on its feet. The engine supplies this SUV with a lot more than the bare minimum this size requires thanks to the great V6 and superb nine-speed auto shift.
Every Enclave tows 1,500 pounds, but you can add more, thanks to an optional package that brings the measure to 5,000 pounds. With this, you can pull your camper or boat with ease.
The base model has front-wheel drive only, but from the mid-range on, Enclaves can come with all-wheel drive. The Premium and Avenir have the most complete all-wheel drive, with a differential that can grant more power when in need.
The drive on the Enclave is always smooth and stable thanks to the five-link suspension system and the electric power steering. The 4,300-pound weight is distributed on a well-crafted and balanced design for optimal stability on every terrain, even without additional dampers. The Enclave’s drive, even with this size and weight, is more akin to that of a crossover than an SUV.
With its new restyling, the Enclave has a design that makes it more akin to an SUV than the minivan-like look of the past generation.
The front is aggressive with its chromed grille, LED headlights, and ultra-modern design. This is the best-looking SUV that 2019 has brought to the market.
The rear is really balanced with a marvelous touch of chrome that enriches its design. Even the exhaust tips are chromed for a shiny accent to the pitch-black low rear bumper.
The interiors are exactly the high level of sophistication that Buick buyers expect from the brand at this price point. Materials are all well selected and the touch and feel are good, even on the basic Preferred model. The outstanding eight-inch screen has a minimalist look, with only the most useful controls present, avoiding a cluttered panel and giving the interior a European touch.
The Enclave has a lot of room no matter which trim you choose, with huge cargo capacity and a well-designed and roomy cabin.
The Enclave delivers on Buick’s claims for a useful third row. It is really much more spacious than its competitors with its 120.9-inch wheelbase and overall length at 204.3 inches. The first row is very comfortable, with the presence on almost every trim option of heaters and coolers for both driver and front passenger seats.
Buick has delivered a lot of storage space inside the Enclave, with roomy consoles and pockets, and some more subtle but well-thought features, like the optional wireless charger built in below the eight-inch screen.
The second row of seats is very well-built too, spacious, full of storage space and roomy enough for even the tallest of passengers. The access to the third row is well-designed and is quite convenient and easy, thanks to the aisle in the seats and pivoting bucket to ease the passage. You can go from the second to the third row even if there’s a child safety seat fitted.
But it is the third row where the Enclave wins by a margin over the competitors. This last portion of the cabin has enough room for two six-foot-tall adults. Finding an SUV with an adult-sized third row is almost impossible.
The cabin reveals its enormous cargo capability when you fold the second and third row of seats, delivering a minivan-like storage space, with 97.6 cubic feet. If this still isn’t enough, there is also 3.1 cubic feet well under the cargo floor.
In official safety tests, the Enclave got five stars rating overall.
Besides from a standard backup camera and airbags, the Enclave also comes equipped as standard with forward-collision warnings, parking sensors, and a rear seat reminder.
Other safety features and driver-assists are optional, like automatic emergency braking, active lane control, adaptive cruise control, and a surround-view camera system.
