2019 Buick Regal has crossed the seas to the shores of America, as it was originally sold under the Opal brand. The Buick Regal comes in two distinct styles: a fastback body shape and a long roofed wagon shape. With the new Regal Avenir trim, the Buick Regal can now come with special upholstery and a cool 19-inch wheel design.
The turbo-4 motor can be paired with either an eight-speed or nine-speed automatic. The eight-speed automatic is designed to be paired with front-wheel drive, while the nine-speed is coupled with all-wheel drive.
The Buick Regal GS is a sportier variant. It comes with a 3.6-liter V6 that is capable of delivering 310 horsepower. The Buick Regal GS also comes stocked with adjustable shocks, sporty bodywork, and sporty seats.
The Sportback style is comparable to that of a fastback sedan while emphasizing its four-door shape and including as much cargo and utility space as possible. The Sportback has up to 60.7 cubic feet of utility space, pushing the Buick Regal into crossover territory.
Meanwhile, the TourX model is much more reminiscent of a station wagon. The vehicle is nearly a foot longer and an inch higher off the ground. This allows for more weight to be placed in the added storage while still keeping the vehicle a safe distance away from the ground.
In either configuration, the Buick Regal comes with lots of safety tech, including a feature that pops the hood of the car when it detects that a collision is imminent. This lessens the impact of the crash.
Aesthetically the Buick Regal has two different options. The wagon style, officially referred to as the TourX version of the vehicle, evokes the designs of several luxury brands over the years. The hatchback is much closer to a four-door coupe than anything else.
The back half of the vehicle is longer and less contoured. This makes it so there is a larger amount of utility space in the back, as well as providing additional headroom and comfort to the rider. Along the grille and side windows, chrome stripes can be found. These work to elongate the profile of the car, and to provide it with a sleek outer exterior. The front of the vehicle is likewise designed to evoke a sleek sharp style, with the intakes working to disguise the forward facing lights. In the back, a set of LED lights can be found for additional lighting.
The Regal GS has a sharper overall look and more aggressive and notable line work in the front. The GS features many of the same aesthetics as the TourX, but is not as long in the back.
Inside, the Regal features an eight- or nine-inch infotainment system.
In terms of power, all versions of the vehicle are excellent, with the GS offering more horsepower and acceleration than the standard Sportback.
The Buick Regal’s AWD is designed to be biased towards the front and put power to the back only when needed. The twin clutch design in the vehicle works to make sure that the balance of power remains equal between the rear wheels.
When performing in AWD mode, the standard turbo-4 is able to output 295 pounds per foot of torque. The Sportback version of the car strikes an even balance of power and performance, able to go from 0 to 60 in 6.2 seconds, which combined with the chassis engineering and steering system make for a confident and smooth ride.
Regardless of which form you choose to get your vehicle in, the 2019 Buick Regal is a car designed with comfort in mind. The Sportback design offers 60.7 cubic feet of storage room on the inside with the rear seats folded down. This amount of space is nearly double the size of most competing vehicles, and it is achieved without suffering the loss of any comfort due to the sloping design of the roof that also ensures that adequate head space is provided. In turn, the TourX version of the Buick Regal offers up to 73.5 cubic feet of storage space, putting it on par with many comparable SUVs, such as the VW Tiguan. The Regal also has additional headroom in the back, in order to accommodate tall passengers.
